Item Description  

Here is a great Antique 1846 Folding Map of the United States as of that time for your buying consideration.  Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself!

This is a beautiful antique map here in a miniature book.  And the book and map are intact!  The folding map book is entitled, "Mitchell's National Map and Route Book" and was put out in 1846.  The book was printed by Kay & Brother.  This map is a second edition, the first being put out in 1843.  First Mitchell map to capture Texas in the first year of statehood.  Same is true with Iowa not being in the first map.  The Oregon inset is also new to this map version.

The morocco blue blind stamped hardcovers are still attached to the rest of the book.  Some wear to the edges of the covers.  Even the nickel plated lock latch is in place and still works!

Some foxing or brown spotting to the book.  The book has 46 pages and then the fold out map. Edges of the map have some wear.  There are tears at the folds of the map in some places.  Some minor paper loss to the map.  The map by designed by J H Young and engraved by J H Brightly.  Great coloring and details to the map.

Rumsey lists only the map version of this 1846 map.  The OCLC site shows only 8 copies of this important and rare map rendering of an early USA.

Shipping Policy

• Shipping is available to:
• 48 contiguous U.S. states and Canada.
• Select countries (disclosed in individual item description).
• No APO/FPO delivery.
• Items will be shipped via USPS or UPS Ground, based on the buyer's preference.
• Shipped on the same or next business day following receipt of full payment.
• UPS/USPS tracking number will be provided.
• Shipping includes the cost of insurance, where applicable.
• Special shipping requests can be communicated and agreed upon at the time of sale.

If an item is shipped to a country outside of the United States, the buyer is responsible for any brokerage, tariffs, taxes, customs, or other charges imposed by that country.  The seller reserves the right to choose the international  shipping carrier based on shipping method selected at the time of payment.  The seller will not understate the value of any item on customs forms.

 

If you purchase or win more than one auction in which the items can safely be shipped together, we will send you a combined invoice.

We take great pride in is our wrapping to ensure that your order is safely shipped to you.  You might find our shipping costs higher than other sellers, but it is due to the extra time, packing care, and materials we utilize.  Of over 900 packages shipped last year, we had only two items with issues, a 99.8% damage free delivery rate.   Keep in mind, we are not shipping soft goods, like shirts or pants.   We are shipping vintage/antique items that are fragile and require special care.

We also obtain insurance on any item that was bought for $50 or more, and require signature on delivery for items that are valued at over $200.  Plus we have to pay the 11.75% of the final value and shipping fees that eBay charges. 

Returns Policy

• Returns are accepted by seller within 30 days of receipt of item where an item is not as described.  The Buyer will be assessed a 15% fee of the Item Cost, plus 115% of both Shipping Costs should they decide to return this item for whatever the reason. 
  
• Please note that this fee is charged to to cover costs related to the loss of listing time and other potential sales, plus the amount of care and time that goes into preparing our unique and fragile items for shipping. 
  
• In accordance with eBay's Buyer Protection Program, the purchase price plus original shipping cost will be refunded to the buyer once the item has been received by the seller, minus the fees noted.
• Buyer would pay for the return shipping cost and any applicable insurance cost (item is the buyer's financial responsibility until the item is safely returned to the seller by shipper).
