RARE! ORIGINAL Antique Century Magazine Print Ad ~ Sept.1887 ABERDEEN, DAKOTA Hagerty & Marple, Bankers INTERESTING! old historical classified ad promoting the growing city of Aberdeen in Brown County, South Dakota and it's property investment potentials! Noting the population then of just 5000 "and growing rapidly" (almost 30,000 today!) There's a WONDERFUL PDF file "A Guide to the Hagerty & Lloyd Historic District" published by the Brown County / Aberdeen Landmark Commission from 1990 detailing some of the homes located in the sixth new addition of housing development which came just a few years after this ad was published. DEFINITELY worth checking out! "F.H. Hagerty conceived the plan, and his associate William M. Lloyd, Jr., financed the project." This is the same Hagerty noted in this ad and according to the publication was known as "the Napoleon of Dakota Finance because he came to the territory penniless in 1880 and was a millionaire by the time he was twenty-eight. ... He opened the Hagerty & Pierce Bank on June 6, 1882 which a year later became Hagerty & Marple." AND Thanks to WIKI for this little FUN FACT about Aberdeen: "L. Frank Baum, who was later author of the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its many sequels, lived here with his wife and children from 1888 to 1891. He ran a fancy goods store, Baum's Bazaar, for over a year, which failed." in EXCELLENT condition for age! smaller classified ad approx. 1" x 3" from smoke-free home ENJOY! & Thanks for stoppin' and shoppin'! - Kari :o) SHIPPING NOTES: FAST shipping is always a TOP PRIORITY!
