Note: Please be aware this is being listed by someone who knows absolutely nothing about model trains -- this came into my possession from my father, who enjoyed model trains for years but is no longer able to participate in the hobby due to health issues. All I can provide is photos of the locomotive, tender, original invoice and letters included with the item.
-- This listing is for one (1) Mountain Model Imports On3 D&RGW #463 K-27 2-8-2 Model Train Locomotive Tender w/Sound. Pictures show the locomotive and tender outside of the box first, and then shows how they are packaged inside the MMI box. Packaging seems very sturdy and protective of the two units, with a lot of foam padding and special boxes to hold each unit.
-- This was purchased in 2005 directly from Caboose Hobbies out in Denver, CO. The locomotive/tender has never been used on a track or powered up in any way. The train was received by my father, removed from the box to "oooh & ahhh" at it a bit, but was then packed back into the original packaging to await the completion of a special track setup he was building for it. He never got that project finished, though, and so the locomotive/tender combo has simply sat packaged up for many years and is now being offered for sale.
-- Pictures show the locomotive and the tender from all sides, plus some close-ups of the intricacy of the manufacture. "Rio Grande" and "463" and other text on the tender car. Locomotive has "463" in several places, plus "D&RGW" along with several "Keep Off' warnings and other text. Speaking as a non-train person, I can only say the level of detail seems amazing to me.
-- The purchase line from the original invoice and two pieces of accompanying paperwork are shown in the last several photographs, as the only printed material that has any identification information at all about the units. I will try to reproduce the most important parts below, but please zoom in on all of those to see what you can get from them.
- Pink invoice: The one purchase line on the invoice is listed with a description of: "K-27 2-8-2 W/Sound Smart DC/DCC".
- Caboose Hobbies letter: Just going to quote some portions of the letter -- please view the whole letter in the images:
"The Mountain Model Imports On3 and On30 K-27's have arrived. Your order has been processed. This is one of the most beautiful and best running Narrow Gauge Models we have ever seen. We have removed the soundboard jumper per the instructions posted on the MMI/Precision Scale Web Site.
"The analog Sound system as delivered has a synchronized chuff and must be powered with a good filtered DC system...
"If you wish to run this locomotive analog only without sound, unplug the speaker. DO NOT UNPLUG THE SOUNDBOARD. Unplugging the soundboard will disable the locomotive and it will not run.
"The only plug and play decoder for this model is an NCE Model D18SR-PSC. A 120-Ohm, 2 watt, series dropping resistor must also be installed in the headlight and cab light lead or you will blowout the 1.5 volt bulbs."
