Stonewall Jackson by Lenoir Chambers
2 Volumes 1959 1st Edition
Water Damage to Hardcovers and Adjoining Pages
Vintage Civil War Related Book

Item Description

Very nice 1st Edition of this Civil War book.  Would make a great gift or keep for yourself!

The book is entitled, "Stonewall Jackson".  The biography of this famous Confederate General was written by Lenoir Chambers.  The book was published by William Morrow & Co. of New York in 1959.  This is a first edition set of books.  The books originally came in a slipcase that are no longer with the books.

This item came from the estate of a party that was a huge collector of Civil War books and artwork.  Also, many items dealing with General George Armstrong Custer, and other historical figures and events.

We will be posting a number of other Civil War and other items that we acquired from this auction over the next few weeks.  So, keep looking to our online store here as they will be offered for sale separately.  Some of the items are Native American artwork, Abraham Lincoln Books (Sandburg and a 9 Vol Collection of Abe's Papers & Correspondence), George Armstrong Custer artwork, and books on the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, both antique and vintage.  Civil War books include a number of ones done by Bruce Catton and Shelby Foote.  Also, Charles Lindbergh books and the salesman sample for the Beamish biography on him.

This set of books is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a fine book shop or auction house.  We can do that by being a dealer in artwork for over 40 years, better controlling our acquisition costs, keeping commission costs low (if applicable).  Finally, we don't have the overhead that fine book shops or auction houses have.

Very desirable copy of this classic Civil War related book issuance.  The book has a red hardcovers with gold gilt lettering and design on the spine.  The front and back covers are still attached to the rest of the book at the spine.

All the pages of the books are still be there. Some water damage to the hardcovers and the adjoining pages of the two volumes.   The water damage, mildew carries into about 4-5 pages from front and back cover of the books.light browning of the pages.  Some minor soiling in places. The book's pages are all intact, no major tears, missing pages or repairs.  Spine shows wear at the edges.  Some finish loss along the front and back covers on the outside on open side.

Biggest condition issue here is some mildew/mold damage from exposure to humidity/water to the covers and a few adjoining pages, see pics.  A musty/dusty smell to the book.

Each book is 9-3/8" tall, by 6-5/8" across, by 1.5" to1.75" wide.  Volume 1 is 597 pages in length.  Volume 2 is 536 pages in  length.  Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.  Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.

Make sure that this item meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it.   The item can be returned, there is a 15% fee of the Item Cost, plus 115% of both Shipping Costs to do so.  So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it.

The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well.  With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
