Family Record Fraktur for Bates Family Going Back to 1820s Doc Printed in 1866 Framed with Old Glass Shingle Wood Slat Back
Item Description
Here is a great Antique Fraktur piece for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself.
This Fraktur covers the Bates family from the 1820s into the early 1900s. More history on the family to follow, just started to research the family members.
The original parent's section of the fraktur is not really legible. Not sure if sun exposure or just the old ink that turns brown problem. The piece has old wavy glass over the fraktur, that is not blistered or cracked.
In the births, there is an Ella M Bates whom was born in February 1873. She was married to a Leon Morris in October 1900. They had 2 children together. A Glenn B Morris born in March 1903 and a Ferne M Morris born in November 1912. Ella may have also been married to a Frank LaPoint.
Also in the marriages section is a Irvin Bates who married an Inez Floyd(e?) in November 1900. Irvin is probably Ella's brother. Irvin, Ella, and Lewellin were Aaron and Susan Bates' 3 children. See below.
Irvin and Inez had a daughter named Hazel Bates. She is noted in one of the Birth sections. She was born in 1899 and lived until 1992. Married a Stenger.
On the right side of the births on the document is a Murl Bates (sister of Hazel) who was born in September 1893 and passed in September 1959. He was born in Crawford County, PA. He lived in Olean, NY and his parents were Irvin and Inez Hyde Bates. Murl was married to Elinor Arthurs who passed in 1990.
In the deaths section, there is a record for a Lewellin Bates whom was born in 1882 and died in 1892. His parents were Aaron (1836-1909), also born in West Spring Creek, PA & Susan Bates (1843-1920) whom are noted in the Memoriam section of the fraktur. Lewellin's headstone is out on findagrave. He is buried in Kansas City, MO.
Aaron Bates' father was a Nicholas Bates who may be the party noted in the parents section of the fraktur.
The actual document the family record is captured on was printed in 1866 by Trumbull & Cruver of Chicago, IL. No water damage to the piece which is rare for a paper piece this old. Nice old wood frame. The gold paint around the glass was touched up at some point and some of it is on the glass.
The framed piece is 29" tall, by 24.5" across, by 1.75" wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an
