Antique French Cologne Square Bottles w/ Engraved Silver Overlay; Up for sale are the two French cologne square glass bottles with silver overlay, dated likely late 19th,  early 20th century.

Each bottle has a square-shaped body, a pouring spout and a stopper. The four panels of the body are all etched with foliage motifs, with ­­flower petals at the center. The shoulder area and the stopper of each bottle are also etched with foliage motifs. Both the spout neck and the lower body of the bottle are covered with engraved silver in various patterns including scrolling edges and floral motifs. The artwork on the silver covering the lower body is symmetrically expressed, as one side featuring two people playing musical instruments, while its next side featuring a woman in her meditation with an angel’s accompanying. Each bottle shows the same hallmarks at the rim of the silver at the bottom, which however are hard to recognize. The purity of the silver is not sure yet, either.

French square bottles with beveled edges are known for their thick-walled, durable construction and ultra-clear crystal appearance. They are usually used as cologne or perfume bottles, but can be used for other purposes, such as for sauces, syrups marinades, herbs, spices or dairy products, due to their ultra-clear appearance.

Measures;  2 ¼” x 2 ¼” x 5 ½” high (with stopper); Bottle itself (no stopper): 4 ¼” high; Weight, two bottles totally, 1 lb & 8.3 oz (688 grams). Condition: Very good and clean; bottles have no chips, cracks, or breaks; silver condition is good.
