Alfred Binet, born Alfredo Binetti, was a French psychologist who together with Théodore Simon invented the first practical intelligence test, the Binet–Simon test. Binet was for a time mentored by Jean-Martin Charcot who, at the time of Binet's tenure, was experimenting with hypnotism and Binet, influenced by Charcot, wrote and published several works focusing on psychic phenomena. This work was one of Binet's final publications in that field hybridised with microbiology before he turned his attention to child psychology.
This smart first edition copy remains complete, and notably was the private copy of C. A. Mace, British philosopher and industrial psychologist; this copy bears his name, inscribed in contemporary ink, to the front free endpaper. For further details please see condition notes.
