What is Murakami Tsuishu?

  1. Tsuishu is a type of lacquerware.
  2. Murakami City in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, is a specialty production area of ​​Tsuishu, and "Murakami Tsuishu" is a traditional craft brand with a history of approximately 600 years.
  3. The manufacturing process is broadly divided into three steps.
  4. First, the "woodworker" creates the base from wood.
  5. Next, the "carver" adds carvings to it.
  6. Finally, the "nurishi" applies layers of vermilion lacquer until it is finally completed.
  7. It is a very time-consuming process, but artisans who have inherited traditional techniques work on each piece by hand, passing on this 600-year-old craft to the present day.

  2. Two birds and three flowers are carved on the surface.
  3. It comes with a copper water container, which you can fill with water and decorate with flowers.
  4. Tsuishu is a lacquer product made from wood, so be careful not to let it come into direct contact with water.
  5. It comes with a base to place the vase on. Flowers are also carved on.
