Sweden 1972 Svars lösen Reader's Digest Det Bästa Svarslösen LICENSE REPLY STAMPS Local Post. Unused (No gum).
Various shades.
The reply licence stamps are the product of a joint effort between the Swedish Post Office and Sweden's Det Bästa (The Best), the Swedish edition of the American Reader's Digest magazine. Det Bäste made their first test printings in 1967 and they obtained Post Office permission to destribute reply envelopes bearing adhesive stamps. The printing was assigned to many different establishments resulting in many varieties.
Subsequently, many firms issued their owns Business Reply labels (on certain conditions). The 'post free' labels were affixed to reply enveloppes by the issuing firms, to encourage a reply. The firms using the system prefered the adhesive stamps, as it gave a more exclusive and colourful appearance than a plain printed text and increased the response rate.
The licensee (business firm etc) paid the postage when the envelopes came back.
