This is the new adjustable Fan Fret Multi-scale fretboard layout tool. I created this to make the tedious job of laying out a multi-scale fan fret on a fingerboard blank. This tool works by having two different scales set side by side with three brackets that allows you to slide the scales to the desired 'neutral' fret. Then simply tighten down the clamps, line the center of the tool on your fretboard blank and mark each side at the center of the outer string. Once marked, you just connect the marks with a straight edge and you are all set to cut. You can literally layout and mark a blank in under 10 minutes to the point of being ready to cut.
I made 9 scales for guitar 21, 21.5, 22, 22.5, 23, 24, 24.75, 25 and 25.5", and 4 scales for bass 30, 32, 34, and 35". You can order any combination you want to make the scale combination you desire. Because the fret slots and markings are equally centered on each section, this can also be used to lay out a fan fret on a left handed guitar simply by changing the sides (long on bottom to short on top flipped to short on top to long on bottom.)
The tool is made from 4 mm cast clear acrylic and the brackets are connected with steel screws and brass thumb nuts. Frets are marked at 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 17, 19, 21 and 24th fret (for the longer scales). The marking slots are 2mm wide allowing for a mechanical pencil to reach down for marking. I have uploaded a few photos of part of a fretboard layout on a lighter piece of wood to show how it works.
NOTE: When making your order, you can have any combination you want however because of how the listing of combinations works here, you might need to switch scale 1 and scale 2 around to get the correct combination. For instance, if you want a 23" scale and 25" scale, if when you select 23" in scale 1 and you don't get the option of 25" in scale 2, just select 25" in scale 1 and then 23" should show up in scale 2. I know it's kind of clunky but that is how the listings work for multiple combination options here!
When ordering chose the two scales you want and they will be shipped with those two scale sides. You can also order sides separately if you decide you want to try another combination on your next build. See my other listing for individual scale sides.
