We offer a jumbo single sided, verso autographed broadside 9.25" x 12.25" for a concert, undated by the Czech pyrotechnic violinist.  Here he performs the Greig Sonata in C Minor, The Vieuxtemps Concerto in D Minor, Suk's Dumka, Tartini-Kreisler Corelli Theme and Variation, Dvorak's Slavanski, Beethoven Turkish March and Paganini's Il Palpiti.

Vasa Prihoda

Prihoda (1900-1960) was the son of the violinist Alois Prihoda who became his first teacher.  He was then sent to study privately with the Czech violinist and pedagogue, Jan Marak.  His first appearance was at the age of 12 in Prague.  He toured Italy in 1920 quite unsuccessfully, though by luck he was heard by Arturo Toscanini who saw talent and realized the young man was out of money and arranged a benefit for him.  With Toscanini’s backing he made a tour of the United States and South America in 1920 and again a year later.  With a then billowing career he toured Europe and Britain non-stop earning higher and higher fees.  He married Alma Rose in 1930, she was the virtuoso violinist the daughter of Arnold Rose, the concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic and leader of the famous quartet which bore his name.  Her mother was Justine Mahler, Gustav Mahler’s sister.  He surprised his wife in 1935 by divorcing her.  Prihoda was told by the Nazi’s if he wished to continue concertizing in Germany he could not be married to a well known Jewish woman.  Prihoda was then given the green light to continue to concertize throughout the German speaking world and other lands they conquered throughout the War.  At the end of the War he was prosecuted as a collaborator and then let go.  He eventually resumed his career and bizarrely married a Jewish actress. 

Prihoda’s technique was unrivalled at the time.  Very different than Heifetz, Prihoda stretched the bounds of the violin, going so far as to write his own cadenzas for all of the concertos he performed to demonstrate his extraordinary and virtuosic abilities.  His records which vary in quality clearly demonstrate his unique and extraordinary abilities.

 The broadside has been folded in four, light flecking and crease seperation.  Quite historical!
