Papua New Guinea Wooden Statue
Vintage late 19th Century - Early 20th Century
Statuette or figure of an anthropomorphic ancestor in carved wood, from Papua Nouvelle Guinea. Long shape, arms along the body, male sex, eyes embedded with white cauris shells, a slit for the mouth
Excellent well loved condition - this guy shows some minor signs of wear mostly on the back - there is one small piece of his right ear that appears to be missing - see photos - overall he is in great condition for his age.
My parents have owned him since the 1950s and I am not sure where they purchased him from.
Measures approximately
29" tall
base is 5" x 2 3/4"
