Text free of highlighting, underlining or writing. Stapled binding, both ends of spine show some splitting of paper binding (1/4 to 1/2 inch), a bit fragile but all pages appear to be intact. Kumar, a former Jain monk who had walked more than 8,000 miles from New Delhi to Washington on a 1962 to 1964 peace pilgrimage, had been invited by Canon John Collins of St. Paul's Cathedral to establish the London School of Non-Violence, and this booklet sets out its teaching. The six chapters treat non-violence as a whole way of life: its politics, philosophy, sociology, economics, ethics, and totality. Contributors include the Gandhian land reformer Vinoba Bhave, historian Geoffrey Ashe, John Papworth, and Canon Collins, among others, each writing on one face of non-violent thought and practice. Written in the year after King's assassination, the handbook carried the Gandhian and civil rights traditions into the British student and peace activism of the late 1960s, and it remains a compact primer on the theory behind non-violent social change.
