Uncommon 1 page autographed Carnegie Hall recital excerpt from an all-Schumann recital including Kinderszenen, Phantatise in C Major and Etudes Syphoniques with 5 variations.
Weissenberg (1929-2012) was born in Bulgaria where he initially studied with the composer Pancho Vladigirov. He made his concert debut at the age of 8. When he and his mother were to be loaded on a train to a Nazi concentration camp, a soldier took pity on them when the young pianist impressed him when he played the accordion and put them on a safe train out of German clutches. They reached Palestine in 1945 where he studied with Leo Kestenberg and made his local debut the same your with Bernstein conducting the orchestra. The next year he foundnhimself in New York at Julliard studying with Olga Samaroff, as well as privately with Artur Schnabel and Wanda Landowska. He made his American debut playing the Rachmaninov 3rd under George Szell with The New York Philharmonic. His career took off from there.
Weissenberg was a shy man and not easily predisposed to sign autographs and therefore has always been rare.
