Classic 1933 First National Pictures Pre-Code crime melodrama from director William Wellman, Ruth Chatterton stars as a woman orphaned and widowed by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, but she had not yet officially married her husband before he died so she gives her out-of-wedlock son up for adoption, with the help of crooked lawyer Louis Calhern she becomes a top madam in the city, but wants her son back, who grows up to become a city attorney.
