Two pieces found together near the smelting area from the 1800s Ore Knob Copper Mine, North Carolina. Most likely a part of rock crusher parts as it was found above onsite smelting area or a part of the smelting equipment. Large bolt and a crusher blade apparently. Rustic washed condition. From an early United States major producing mine that predates its incorporation date in the mid 1800s. Once the area was surrounded by an early settlement town locally known as the lost community with historical significance in premodern machinery mining equipment but also older history that is not fully written. The old mine located the Blue Ridge Mountains in the eastern continental divide Appalachian Mountain chain. Registered historical mining operation with two different timeline and mine openings, these relics come from the original shaft operation that was dug straight down into the mountain and tunneled outward for many miles which would be quite a feat for its timeline from the mountain known has Ore Knob. It was a dug manually or from timeline equipment. Quite a feat as it predates modern machinery. Some of the history of the old mine can be found online. The later shaft that was dug operated and supplied metal through two world wars and permanently closed in the mid 1900s.The early shaft and the later shaft were in different locations in the same area of the Ore Knob area. Tunnels are said to go many miles deep within the mountains located in the northwestern corner of North Carolina. A major metal producing mine that also produced gems as well. The two cast iron relics do show aging and wearing from the earlier timeline of the mine. The long bolt with square nut is a little over 6-1/4 inches long. nut on the bolt is 7/8 inch wide and worn down from aging the crusher blade piece is not whole with one sharp tapper end. the rectangular shape is 6-5/8 inches x 3 inches x 3/8 inches at the thickest point on the edge. United State historical mining relic lot of two cast iron components. There are two images that are known to exist of the older operation before it collapsed. The shaft itself is now filled and no longer producing metals. Gold, silver, platinum types of, iron and as the name suggests a major copper producing mine. The old town that was in the area had a black smithing operation and would have likely been cast on site as is the other relics listed.
