Reserved for MR - This is an antique iron lock with a skeleton key. The lock and accompanying key were hand forged and have the hammered tool marks as proof. It is functional, rustic, almost sinister looking. From top to bottom is 8 3/8", side to side, 4" and 1 1/2" in thickness not including the 2 5/8" key. The lock and key weigh 1 3/4 lbs. The mechanism works, but not easily. To lock, insert the key and turn counterclockwise a couple of turns until it clicks. To remove the key from the lock, turn clockwise 1/4 turn and pull the key out partway, then turn another 1/4 turn and remove the key. Unlock by turning clockwise. It takes some finessing to open and lock it. Consider this a decorative bit of collectible lock history. It is easily from the 1800s.
