This is all four volumes of a limited-edition book series covering the Harley-Davidson Knucklehead overhead valve models produced for the 1936-47 model years.

Each volume starts with a brief overview, followed by full page color photos of original paint or accurately restored bikes for each year. Then comes a list of technical changes by model year, the dealer publication announcing the forthcoming new models, followed by color sales brochures and then copies of the relevant Enthusiast magazines published during the model years. We conclude with a two-page summary of production numbers and commentary.

The 1,899 A4 landscape pages contain copies of every page of the 143 original January 1936-December 1947 Harley-Davidson Enthusiast magazines, including the front and back covers and the seasonal accessory advertisements. Also included is every dealer new model announcement and all the knucklehead sales brochures.

Knucklehead fans will find plenty of pictures of overhead valve machines in service, with details of racing successes, distance and speed runs. The small twins, flathead Big Twins and Servi-Cars are also featured in the reporting, and careful scrutiny of the thousands of photos and captions may just find your bike or a relative in one of them. The sweep of history through World War Two can also be clearly sensed, as Harley moved from peacetime to war and back again.
