This is a really unique industrial table purchased from an antique book binder collection here locally. The person I bought from did specialty leather bookbinding and said that this came from a bindery in the mid west that actually used it as a pounding table for large ledgers and binders. The heavy cast top can lift out and has large handle openings at each end. Very heavy though, like a big flat anvil. The top weighs 115 lbs by itself.
I am selling this as an industrial printer bench or table and likely could have multiple uses. It most resembles a Printer Turtle Table, and the metal surface is very flat and true. I do know it was used by printers but it could have other origins too. The surface does have little dings all over it so it did see a lot of use. The wood and the metal both appear to have ink stains and some buildup around the edges.
Other use: This could have originally been a machinist inspection plate that was repurposed as a turtle or printer table.
- Top portion is very heavy cast Steel or Iron, and weighs almost exactly 115 lbs by itself.
- Top cast piece is 20 inch by 24 inch by 2 inch thick. See pics of it lifted up as it has hollow sections / ridges under
- Maker is a mystery to me - I do not see a maker mark on the steel - it might be there but I did not see it.
- Underneath the cast piece you will see thick flannel strips fixed to the base which dampens the contact nicely.
- Dimensions with wheels and table base: 34.5 inch high x 25.5 inch x 22 inch deep top
- Iron piece is 20" x 24" x 2" and 115 lbs.
Rolling wood table base appears hand made and could be from manufacturer or custom made.
I admit I have no idea what this is worth. I will place at what I consider to be a higher retail price and drop price until it sells. I really enjoy this piece in my shop so will hold onto it if I cannot get a buyer to pick up locally.
