Smelyansky's book examines the history of such plays as "The Days of the Turbins", "The Flight", "Moliere", the staging of "Dead Souls" and their production on the stage of the Moscow Art Theatre. The book ends with an analysis of "Theatrical Novel", as if summing up the relationship between Bulgakov and the Moscow Art Theatre.
