Antique Butcher Breaking Splitter Knife with Carbon Steel Blade & Wood Handle Made by John Russell Cutlery Company
In 1832, John Russell founded John Russell Cutlery Company in Green River, Massachusetts. Their knives manufactured with the finest steel and design earned a good reputation for quality and wildly accepted by American consumers. In 1840s, John Russell introduced the legendary "Green River Works Knife" and it became an instant success.
This knife has the blade forged from the fine carbon steel designed to take a finer edge and hold it longer providing sharp cutting satisfaction. The handle is secured with pins over the full tang and a two-piece steel bolster held in place with a single rivet to achieve the sure fitting for durability, strength, & balance.
This item has the design invented by Joseph N. Gardner with the patent number 27,357 issued on March 6th, 1860.

Maintenance Suggestion: Hand wash only in warm water after using, especially if used on foods that have acidic sauce/liquid. After washing it, wipe the blade and handle completely dry. Use of electric knife sharpener or dishwasher not recommended.
