Jazz At The Manne-Hole! The Los Angeles Jazz Society and Councilman Michael Woo invite you to join in Celebration of Hollywood II, and the Unveiling Ceremonies of A Commemorative Manne-Hole. Dedicated to Shelly Manne and his world-famous Jazz Club. April 29, 1986. Poster on medium weight, matte paper, 17 x 11 in. SIGNED by graphic designer C.R. Prichard, a.k.a., Acrylic Waxx to right of ladder. Notes: Hollywood II: Sequel to the Golden Era was a week-long series of diverse events in the city of Los Angeles, meant to bolster the unique commercial qualities and historical significance of Hollywood. For instance, those events included the laying of a cornerstone and time capsule of the Screen Actors’ Guild’s new national headquarters. The planners of Hollywood II hoped their event would coincide with the City Council’s approval of the Community Redevelopment Plan for Hollywood. Shelly Manne was part owner of the jazz club, the Manne-Hole, which operated at 1608 North Cahuenga Boulevard for twelve years, from roughly 1960 to 1973. The house band at the nightclub was Shelly Manne and His Men. The dedication was followed by a noontime jazz concert. Acrylic Waxx was a singer and composer in Los Angeles. Waxx eventually relocated to Phoenix and subsequently further out in the desert where he devoted his time to painting.
