This brass lidded vessel could be called a bowl, an urn, a pot, or a jar. My grandmother used to keep candies or trinkets in it. Later, my mother used it for coins.
The bottom is stamped “145” and “Made in British India” so it must have been made no later than 1947, possibly much earlier.
The decoration is intricate. Both the bowl and the lid have enameling in white, red, and blue, mostly floral shapes in oval medallions and wavy vines. There are also bands of etched or engraved geometric patterns with red coloring in the lines, and some tiny etched or engraved decorations on some of the leafy shapes.
The urn is about 5 inches tall including the knob on the top. It is 4 1/2 inches wide. The lid fits neatly, and the colors are still clear, with minimal wear consistent with a well-kept antique.
