How to Install the BFT Battery Backup
There is a complete manual included with this battery backup. However, for a general guide on how to install, please see below.
Step 1: Safety Precautions
Turn off power to the gate motor before starting the installation and ensure you are working in a dry environment to prevent electrical hazards. Wear protective gloves when handling the battery to avoid any accidental short circuits.
Step 2: Locate the Control Board & Battery Compartment
Open the BFT gate motor cover using a screwdriver. Then, identify the battery compartment or designated area for the SL BAT2 backup battery. If your motor doesn’t have a built-in compartment, you may need to mount the battery externally using a weatherproof enclosure.
Step 3: Connect the SL BAT2 to the Control Board
Identify the battery connection terminals on the control board (refer to the BFT motor manual for exact locations). This unit is a simple plug-in model, so connection will be simple.
Step 4: Secure the Battery in Place
If installing internally, place the SL BAT2 inside the battery compartment and close any securing brackets. If mounting externally, secure the battery in a weatherproof housing and position it near the gate motor.
Step 5: Test the Backup Battery
Turn the gate motor power back on and ensure it operates normally. After a few hours, simulate a power outage by switching off the main power supply. Try operating the gate with the remote control or keypad—it should still function using the SL BAT2 backup power.
If the gate doesn’t work, check:
- Battery charge level (use a multimeter to verify voltage).
- That the plug is securely connected to the board.
- That the motor supports battery backup (not all models do). Refer to our listing description.
Step 6: Final Checks & Closing
Double-check all connections, then close the motor cover securely.
If using an external enclosure, ensure it is weather-sealed.
