Description

To commemorate the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games, the Royal Canadian Mint produced this series of ten Sterling Silver coins, between September 1985 and September 1988. Edge lettering was used for the first time on Canadian silver coins, and read, "XV OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES - JEUX OLYMPIQUES D'HIVER". The set includes the following winter sports: Downhill Skiing, Speed Skating, Hockey, Biathlon, Cross-Country Skiing, Free-Style Skiing, Figure Skating, Curling, Ski-Jumping and Bobsleigh.

In 1988 Calgary, Alberta, hosted the XV Olympic Winter Games. Unlike the 1976 Olympic coins the Calgary winter Olympic coins were issued in proof quality only.
