15 German World War II ww2 realphoto Postcards from Bitburg to Stafford POW Camp Hannpver=Bothfeld
This lot is for 15 German World War II postcards that are all from March 1942 - September 1944.. They provide a first hand, person to person, German perspective and narrative of the War and life in Germany before D-Day.
I don't read German but they seem to be addressed to a German Lieutenant in Stafford POW Camp Hannover-Bothfeld, One is postmarked from Bitburg. Bitburg was, and still is, a Military city.
Two have a Hindenburg stamp. One is a photo of Adolf Hitler Strasse in Hannover. One shows a street covered with rubble, the result of allied bombing. 1944 is mentioned in the handwritten script of the sender - see pics.
During World War II Stafford camp in Hannover=Bothfeld was the site of a number of POW (prisoner-of-war) camps,
The Prisoner of War Camp complex housed thousands of prisoners from Britain and other Allied nations. It consisted of several separate camps and was in use until its liberation in 1945. The camp housed prisoners from Dunkirk, the Battle of the Bulge, Anzio Campaign, Invasion of Poland, North Africa Campaign and Arnhem to name a few.
Good condition - see photos.
