This is a fabulous large spongeware shallow rice bowl dating from before 1880.
No marks, but could have been made in Scotland as many sponge ware plates were produced for the overseas market. Scotland emerged as one of three main manufacturing centres and exported substantial amounts to trading centres around the world. This plate was found in Sri Lanka. Measures 10 inches wide x 2 inches high
In excellent antique condition with minor staining /grazing on one area which in no way detracts from this beautiful bowl. See photos. There are some very minor glazing errors which occurred during production. A fabulous collectors piece which would enhance any country kitchen.
