Hello and thanks for checking out my listing.
I’m back at it again, selling off more of the things I’ve collected over the years. Normally it’s sneakers, but today it’s this Megatron I happened across about 25 years ago. I’ve had him long enough and done nothing with him, it’s time to let someone else love him.
Picture it: 1998 or 1999…Walking through the Chinatown mall here in fabulous Las Vegas, looking for Dragonball Z wall scrolls or anything related to Street Fighter or King of Fighters, I went into one shop that mostly only sold CDs and movies. To my surprise, there was an entire display section filled with probably 30 different G1 Transformers. All in their boxes, seemingly unopened, Autobots and Decepticons alike, no duplicates. Someone’s personal collection perhaps? I’ll never know. I had enough money to buy only one of the bigger ones, they were all extremely reasonably priced but I just didn’t have the cash on me. I chose Megatron here because I never owned him as a child, paid for it and drove away to the nearest ATM. When I’d returned, the entire display was empty. My guess is that someone got ahold of a collection in a bulk buy, and didn’t know what they really had in hand.
The box has obviously seen better days, but the yellowed and peeling tape on the sides would lead you to believe he’s never been opened. His stickers also do not appear to have been applied, reinforcing this theory. However, I’ll be honest, looking at him closely through the window of the packaging does make it look like he’s been played with before. There’s visible signs of wear. Nothing serious at all, and still leaps and bounds above the condition of most of the other one available here on eBay. But I can’t say for sure and I’m not opening it myself to see.
Recently I’d looked at him again to see if anything stood out, and I did notice a black sticker in the upper right corner of the top of the packaging, and I got worried that it meant he was a knockoff. A bit of research led me to a place called “highendtfs” and a write-up they did entitled “Comprehensive 1990's G1 Guide”.
He is a legitimate Hasbro release, hence the copyright info below the tech spec meter on the back of the package. These released in China in the 89-92 range as opposed to 84 here in the states.
Is he unopened? I can’t say for sure without permanently making the answer ‘no’, and that’s why I’ve listed him as “used” instead of “new”…because I just can’t guarantee it. Is this rare and worth more than I’m asking? Maybe! Maybe you’ll be getting a steal here, I don’t know. Am I overestimating his value? Possibly, but I’m sure that will become apparent soon enough if so.
…..
My feedback speaks for itself. I’ve sold dozens of pairs of Nike and Jordan shoes and lots of video games, and other stuff that we nerds like, over the years and all of my stuff is 100% authentic. I am a collector just like many of you and I hope this figure gives you the same enjoyment he gave me, or would’ve given me if I’d ever done anything with him.
My price is my price. ALL REQUESTS TO PURCHASE FROM ME AT A PRICE LOWER THAN MY LISTING WILL BE IGNORED. I do not normally accept returns. I do not ship internationally under any circumstances, nothing against where you live, it’s just too much waiting and hassle. I generally ship within 24 business hours of being paid. I use tracked services like UPS and USPS. I only accept CONFIRMED addresses and of course the payment must be received to end the listing.
