The Mathnawi of Jalaluddin Rūmī
This is the first complete English language translation of the celebrated poem, the Mathnawi. Originally written in Persian, it is a reflection of life and thought of the Mohammedan world in the later Middle Ages. The translation with its critical notes and commentary is intended primarily as an aid to students of Persian but it is hoped that it may also attract those interested in medieval learning, in Eastern poetry, life and manners, and in human nature, who may neither be acquainted with Persian nor concerned with Sufism. The English translation is contained in volumes II, IV and VI. while the Persian text is published as volumes I, III and V.
