The NASA ST-124 platform was known as the "Stabilized Platform". It was a key component of the Saturn V rocket's guidance system. It was used to maintain a fixed orientation in space during launch and ascent using gyroscopes and accelerometers. This was necessary for precise trajectory control particularly intended for lunar missions. It was part of the Instrument Unit (IU) on the Saturn V rocket.
SA-9 was the eighth NASA Saturn flight to test Apollo systems and launch the Pegasus A satellite on February 16, 1965
