Paavo Järvi's life work, completed after 11 years.
Paavo Järvi is highly acclaimed for his recordings of the complete symphonies of Mahler, Nielsen, and F. Schmitt with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. In parallel with his work on these three composers, Järvi himself has been performing all of Bruckner's symphonies, which he has considered to be his life work and that of the Symphony Orchestra. This year marks the 125th anniversary of Bruckner's death, and the complete set will be released as a box set, with the addition of two unreleased pieces, "No. 0" and "No. 8."
There is an image that only experienced, elderly conductors can achieve great performances of Bruckner's symphonies, but Järvi brings the music to life at a faster tempo, meticulously finishing the details, while clearly presenting Bruckner's characteristic huge block structure. In particular, his fresh approach to his early symphonies, which he sees as an extension of Schubert and Mendelssohn, is extremely refreshing, and it is still fresh in our memory that he performed them at the NHK Symphony Orchestra's regular concert to great acclaim. Even from his middle period onwards, he vividly captures the individuality of each work, such as the clear sound handling of the fugue in the final movement of the Fifth, the lyricism of the Seventh, and the cosmic profundity of the Ninth.
