Source:  This map is an original plate map taken from “The New Universal Atlas Containing Maps of the Various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics of the World.  Thomas Cowperthwait & Co. No. 253 Market Street, Philadelphia.  1851”.  The cover read “Mitchell’s Universal Atlas”.  “Entered, according to act of Congress, in the year 1850, by Thomas Cowperthwait & Co., in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania”.  Most of the maps are H.S. Tanner maps which were reused in later Augustus/Mitchell atlas' with some updates.  The original Atlas cover was heavily damaged and the spine binding was split.  Based on the cover condition, we decided to snip the binding strings and remove each page from the old damaged Atlas and list them separately.  This listing is only for the map page shown in the listing.

Used, as-is.  Paper is aged.  Paper has spots, dirt, soft/ragged/rounded edges and corners, corner tips may be creased or missing.  This is one page only, and the rest of the Atlas is not included in this listing.  Binding edge is ragged with small tears or flakes which may vary slightly during packaging and shipping and handling, possible binding thread holes and including small remnants of binding glue.    Reverse side may have color transfer if the back of the map page was adjacent to another map page.  Occasional pencil mark.  See attached pictures.
