Antique Louden's patent 1895 Circular Single Tree, horse Whiffle Whipple harness.
This piece was designed and patented by William Louden at age 52 in 1895. This old curved wooden hoisting singletree is commonly called a whippletree or whiffletree. Designed to use with horse power in haying operations. Whippletree rope was attached to barn hay carrier on one end and to harness at rear of horse on other end to lift heavy loads of hay into the mow. Curved is designed to avoid dragging against horse's heels. It has the original used finish which is in great shape as you can see from the pic. The raised casting reads "Louden Patent" "October - 1895" Also the raised registered # "30".
