The photo doesn't do it justice (it's white, not gray). Lumicel "non-fiberglass" fiberglass lampshade, light diffusion, and shoji parchment from Meteor Lights offers the advantages of fiberglass lamp shade materials, but without the drawbacks.
Translucent and waterproof Lumicel is white and has brilliant luminescence. It is easy to clean (wipe with a damp cloth) and easy to work (cuts with scissors or matte knife, punches with hole punch or awl). With Lumicel, however, you won't get offgassing, fiberglass splinters, and airborne fibers.
Instead of chopped and brittle glass microfibers, the strands in Lumicel are long and supple, and give it a unique texture that evokes classic midcentury lampshades and shoji screen washi paper. The fibers in Lumicel that give it its unique luminescence and texture are made from recycled PET polyester water bottles.
Lumicel can be colored with fabric dyes or acrylic paints. Acrylic mediums and paints are recommended, as they also seal the material, but this isn't as critical as it is with fiberglass lampshade parchment. Lumicel is perfect for lampshades, light fixtures, screens, art projects, and almost anywhere you need light diffusion. It is flexible and conforms to a simple curve of 2" diameter on up, so it's ideal for drum, elliptical, rectangular, and conic shapes, but it's not recommended for compound curves. It's stiff on its vertical axis, but large flat areas would need support. Please observe the same UL wattage guidelines with Lumicel as you would with fiberglass lampshade and shoji plastic materials.
Lumicel is 59" wide, with at least 57" or more usable; and sold by the running yard.
