The condition of this program is very good with light wear, to include a faint verticle crease on the front cover. The lineup is included and has been folded. Numerous pictures were taken to assist with the condition and content of the program and lineup.
The 1958 Southern 500 was held at Darlington Raceway on September 1st. The 41st race of the season would see a huge crowd of 80,000 pack the speedway and watch Eddie Pagan lead the field of 48 to green.
On lap 136, the pole sitter, Eddie Pagan blew a tire and went through the guard rail. NASCAR officials were unable to make repairs and asked the drivers to stay away from the area the guardrail was missing. Within a few laps, Eddie Gray went out, followed by Jack Smith a few laps after that.
Fireball Roberts didn't care about a missing guardrail and rode the high groove to a five lap victory over Buck Baker, Shorty Rollins, Speedy Thompson, and Marvin Panch.
