Up for auction is a vintage piece of art related ephemera. This is a receipt from Grippi Gallery for the loan of an original Andy Warhol painting to a show at the Gotham Book Mart. The show was in 1971 and encompassed his early works. It was organized by Andreas Brown, the owner of the Gotham Book Mart at the time. This piece and my small quantity of other related Andy Warhol and Gotham Book Mart items comes from the estate of Andreas Brown. A small collection of ephemera such as this was held in a NY storage unit whose contents went up for auction when he was unable to keep up payment in his later years.
The early works show did not have many, if any other, paintings. It was mostly his earlier pieces outside of painting. This makes this a fairly unique and special piece.
The last photo shows a packet of photocopies of info on some of the other Warhol items that came together as a group from the Gotham Book Mart Andreas Brown estate, to provide some provenance and history.
