The 2nd Collection of French Company Felix Potin cards were believed to be distributed with candy in the 1908 timeframe. The issue includes over 500 cards of different celebrities, including at least 10 cards related to very early auto racing. The cards are roughly 1.5" x 2.75" and have a blank back. The front of the card is similar to a photo, and the paper stock is thinner than a traditional sports card.
This card features Henri Fournier and was in a scrapbook at one time. There are remnants of a scrapbook page on the back of the card. Pictures were taken to assist with the condition and content of the card.
Henri Fournier was born in LeMans, France, in 1871. Fournier was a premier driver at the turn of the century, driving a Mors to victory in the Paris to Bordeaux race and the Paris to Berlin race in 1901. His notoriety allowed him to live for a brief time in the United States, where he set the land-speed record in 1902 with a speed of 123.28 km/h.
Please review the other racing items I have listed at the eBay store, The Checkered Past. I will combine shipping and provide a refund on shipping charges for anything over cost. Thanks!
