Judy Cassab was the first female artist to win the Archibald twice. She is renowned for not only for capturing her sitter’s likeness, but the spirit of the times. This sense for meaning beyond appearance underlies ‘Music’, an elegant etching of two figures listening to and playing music. It’s as though we’ve walked into a lounge in the 1970s to find a jam in session.

Cassab was Holocaust survivor. Her work is informed by a deep reverence and joy for life, a keen attention to the moments of sweetness that make it worthwhile. An ode to friendship and music, ‘Music’ is a quiet revelation.

Cassab’s portraits reside in the British Royal Collection, National Portrait Gallery, National Gallery of Australia, and many other prominent and prestigious public, corporate, and notable private collections. This work is a thrilling find for budding art buyers, seasoned connoisseurs of graphic arts, and collectors of works by women artists.
