Very Large Unique Freehand Bowl
Acrylic Stem, Plateau Bowl Bottom
Original De Luxe Box, Gorgeous Grain
Offering a great smoking pipe called Clairmont, from Tom Spanu. Tom’s workshop is in Sardinia (an island W-SW of Rome), Italy and that’s the source of the briar for these pipes. He has produced the Clairmont pipes for Paronelli for many years, and sometimes his name is on the pipes, most the time it is not, but you can see the original box shows Tom Spanu. This pipe is a unique example of this brand, as it is really big, and has a very different shape. The bottom of the bowl is a curve of plateau, which is the exterior of the root ball. The sides show a fan of flame across both sides, really gorgeous. The bowl has one flaw, the owner lit the pipe with the flame facing the rear of the bowl, and you can see a dark spot on the back side of the bowl from the heat, though the bowl interior looks fine and there’s probably 3/16” of bowl thickness. The bowl is made of Sardinian briar, from the island where his shop is located. It's quite a large pipe, and gorgeous to my eye. The stem is a gold pearlescent acrylic in a freehand leaning style, no tooth wear. The pipe comes in a display type case, which is in okay shape, has some stains on the lid. The draw hole is bottom center, pipe draws well. It weighs about 4.75 ounces. Carefully refreshed and is ready to smoke!
