Chinese Rice and Grain buckets date back thousands of years. They were essential for carrying and storing grain in ancient China.

This Chinese rice bucket wid lid was recently acquired from a large Asian Bostonian estate.

It is crafted from wood, metal straps, and metal handles. Perhaps, a Chinese cypress or oak tree was used to create the planks. The metal was molded into straps and handles. The bucket features two metal handles. A metal strap of approximately 3/4 inch is at the top and bottom rims of the bucket. A decorated flower lid with a metal ring sits on top of the bucket.

The wood has been painted a red lacquer that emphasizes the beauty of the varying colors of the wood.

The metal strap at the top lid of the bucket is loose. The lid is also loose fitting.

This Chinese rice bucket served practical purposes while also carrying cultural significance.
