Chinese water buckets date back thousands of years. They were essential for carrying and storing water in ancient China.

This old Chinese Shao Lin water bucket was recently acquired from a large Asian Bostonian estate.

It is crafted from wood, wrought iron straps, and wrought iron nails. Perhaps, a Chinese cypress or oak tree was used to create the planks. Wrought iron was molded into straps, handles, and nails. The bucket features a large wrought iron ring for carrying water using a rounded piece of wood or wrought iron pole that would rest on the shoulders of one or more persons. The wrought iron handles and straps are held together with wrought iron nails. A large wooden yoke is held together on top of the water bucket by two wrought iron handles.

The wood and wrought iron are very distressed and have numerous signs of wear due to their usage and age.  

This oldvChinese water bucket served practical purposes while also carrying cultural significance. Its craftsmanship and unique design will continue to captivate collectors and enthusiasts alike and will make a fine addition to your collection of ancient Chinese artifacts or for display purposes.
