SYNOPSIS:Inspired by Isaac Asimov's The Early Asimov, Frederik Pohl assembled this collection of eight stories and one poem from his earliest years as a writer, spanning 1937 to 1944. Most were published under his pseudonym James MacCreigh in pulp magazines including Super Science Stories and Astonishing Stories, during Pohl's years as a young writer and editor in New York's Futurian science fiction circle. Autobiographical commentary by Pohl woven between each story recounts those formative years in his own voice. The collection includes Elegy to a Dead Planet: Luna (1937), The Dweller in the Ice, The King's Eye, It's a Young World, Daughters of Eternity, Earth, Farewell!, Conspiracy on Callisto, Highwayman of the Void, and Double-Cross. This Book Club Edition hardcover with cover art by Peter Rauch was issued by Doubleday in 1976.
