Personal History
“Phra Khru Thammasarakun,” or “Luang Por Khian Khantasarow,” is a monk full of virtues, dedicated to helping society in many ways, including public welfare and education.
Luang Por Khian was born with the name Khian Thongkham on February 18, 1930, on a Wednesday, the 2nd day of the 4th lunar month, in Kating Village, Pluang Subdistrict, Khao Khitchakut District (then part of Makharm District), Chanthaburi Province. His parents were Mr. Yuu and Mrs. Moong Thongkham, who worked in agriculture, gathering wild plants and herbs. Thus, he learned about medicinal plants and the forest on Khao Khitchakut and became skilled in this area.
As of 2008, he was 78 years old and served as the abbot of Wat Kating in Kating Village, Pluang Subdistrict, Khao Khitchakut District, and as the district head of Makharm in Chanthaburi Province. He completed primary education up to grade 4 at Wat Kating School in Pluang Subdistrict, Khao Khitchakut District.

Ordination
At the age of 20, he was ordained as a monk at Wat Kating on May 16, 1951. Phra Khru Nithet Kananusit from Wat Nong Ao, Makharm District, Chanthaburi, was his preceptor, and Phra Khru Phutthabothboriharn from Wat Pluang was his ordination teacher. He received the monastic name “Khantasarow” and studied Buddhist scriptures, passing the first-level exam.

Monastic Roles and Titles

Honorary Doctorate in Buddhist Studies
In 1995, he initiated the project to bring temples into schools, giving Dharma talks at many schools and implementing this project in Makharm District and Khao Khitchakut Subdistrict.
In 1998, he published a book titled “Bringing Temples into Schools” and another on “Culture of Chanthaburi - The Kingdom of Chantaboon.” Based on these works, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University awarded him an honorary Doctorate in Buddhist Studies. Somdet Phra Yannasangworn, the Supreme Patriarch, presented the degree on May 11, 2003. He also received an award for his contributions to life and social guidance from the Ministry of Education in 2003.

Whenever government agencies, charitable organizations, schools, or the public sought help from Luang Por Khian, he never refused assistance. Therefore, the local community named him “The Deity of Khao Khitchakut.”
Phra Khru Thammasarakun (Luang Por Khian Khantasarow) is known for his expertise in meditation techniques and his ability to foresee future events. For example, he predicted a flash flood in Chanthaburi before it occurred in 1999, affecting Khao Khitchakut District, Makharm District, and Chanthaburi City.
Moreover, he is skilled in assessing conditions in mountainous areas, able to foresee natural disasters. He walks quickly up Khao Khitchakut, often leaving villagers behind. Even at over 70 years old, he walks as fast as if he were disappearing.
