Borlotto Lingua di Fuoco is a traditional Italian heirloom climbing French bean, famous for its beautiful cream pods streaked with deep crimson and its striking pink-speckled beans. The tender young pods can be eaten fresh like French beans, while mature beans are perfect for drying, soups, stews and Italian cooking.

This vigorous climbing variety produces heavy crops over a long season and is ideal for vegetable gardens, allotments and kitchen gardens.

Position: Full Sun

Soil: Fertile, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil

How to Grow

Sow seeds approximately 4–5cm deep in pots or directly into warm soil after the risk of frost has passed.

Provide strong canes, netting or a bean frame for plants to climb.

Harvest young pods regularly for fresh eating, or leave pods to mature fully before shelling the beautiful speckled beans for drying or cooking.
