The boards are quite damaged - see photos. The binding is visible at the front endpapers and the front board has quite a bit of play in it. But the book is soundly bound and nothing is missing.

The book is beautifully illustrated with many engravings made from original photographs. There is some bad foxing around pages 37 to 47 - see final photo for the worst example. There is some browning of pages and the odd smudge mark. Generally, however, the text is bright and clean. There are 472 pages. 

For the avoidance of doubt - the signed statement at the bottom of the title page is printed on - and is not hand signed.
