Non-inductive wire-wound resistors are special items, usually only available by special order. Standard wire-wound resistors have a stray inductance value associated with them because the resistance wire is wound in a coil in one direction only. Usually, this stray inductance has an unspecified value and  – for a few applications – causes undesirable or unpredictable  side effects. To eliminate the stray inductance the ARCOL  resistors prefixed ‘N’  are specially wound with 50% of the resistance wire wound in one direction of rotation and 50% wound in the opposite direction. So, if you have concerns around switching noise, electromagnetic interference, switch contact life, ‘ringing’ (resonant oscillation on switching edges).  or your application is in zones with potential gas and/or dust hazards : non-inductive wire-wound resistors are a good way to go.
