This is for an original vintage baseball glove
which had been endorsed by Hall of Fame pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander. The
mitt is still nice and soft with no inside tears. The pinky has “I Use and
Recommend This Model” stamped into the glove with the signature of Grover C
Alexander under it. The signature is a bit light but still easy to read. The
glove is a model 700 L (which I believe stands for the glove fitting the left
hand) and has a makers name stamped in the palm. The maker looks to be “MAC”
inside of a double circle. Not really sure what MAC stands for as MacGregor hadn’t
produced their own gloves yet and if it was it would say MacGregor Goldsmith. There
is no patch on the glove or maker on the button. The only major issue with the
glove is that either the 1 inch web or loops on the thumb and first finger are
gone. The glove would have had either a single piece of leather as a web or
some leather lacing between the two loops. Actually an easy fix if you have a
no name early glove. If you are a glove expert and know what type of web is
missing along with who manufactured the glove, this is a real money maker or
just a great keepsake to add to your collection. The glove is a nice chocolate brown
and pliable and could still be used to play catch with if you decided to do so.
An extremely rare mitt that doesn’t come around too often.
