Company History:
"Royal Standard" was actually a trademark used on china made by Chapmans Longton Ltd. Chapmans was founded in 1916 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Thomas C. Wild & Sons and was based at the Albert Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire. Chapmans Longton Ltd. had three known manufacturers’ trademarks: “Standard China” was the first, being used from ca. 1916 until 1930. “Royal Mayfair” was another trademark, used to identify the company’s bone china from ca. 1938 until 1941. Finally, “Royal Standard”, the company’s best known trademark, began use around 1949. The business closed in 1966 when Allied English Potteries (who in 1964 had acquired the Wild companies) reorganized production.
