Aetna Fire
Insurance of Hartford, Connecticut was started in 1819 with $15,000
in cash and $150,000 in total capital. The company flourished and
started their Aetna Life operation in 1853. The property operation
weathered devastating fires, including the Chicago blaze in 1871, for
which the company paid out almost $3.8 million. The company offered
its first Aetna health insurance policy in 1899 and was among the
first health insurers in the United States. Aetna Fire was acquired
by Travelers in 1996.
Vintage
Aetna Insurance sign listed in “Signs of Insurance” book as
number 6.13 on page 15. Brushed metal construction with black
etched trim and lettering stating “FIRE Marine, Tornado and
Automobile INSURANCE/ AETNA INSURANCE COMPANY/ HARTFORD, CONN.”
measuring approximately 12”X 18”. In good condition, with
expected wear from usage and age.
This
is a really nice item and would make an excellent addition for any
collector of signs, insurance company memorabilia, or a great gift
