Passed down in the family, this has been in storage for many years.

Signed by President Lewis T. Fitzhugh, the first president of Belhaven from 1894-1904. He had previously been President of Whitworth Female College in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Since he died in 1904 before the end of the term, his wife signed for him as her name is underneath his name in the same hand.

Note Belhaven was originally known as Belhaven College for Young Ladies.

The degree is for Mistress of English Literature.
